On 3rd April 2024, the 3rd Japan-EU Policy Dialogue on Education, Culture and Sport was held hosted by the EU Representation in Tokyo. The meeting was attended by Mr. Masahito MORIYAMA, Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) and Mr. Masaaki FUJIWARA Vice-Minister of MEXT from Japan; Ms. Iliana IVANOVA, European Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth and Ms. Pia AHRENKILDE HANSEN, Director-General for Education, Youth, Sport and Culture from the EU and their colleagues.

During this Policy Dialogue, participants exchanged views on digital education, student mobility, cultural heritage and sport activities for young people in both Japan and the EU. At the meeting, both sides welcomed the new initiative to exchange students and staff in strategic areas.

It was also confirmed that an Erasmus National Focal Point will be established in Japan and that Japan will participate in the Erasmus network to collect and disseminate mobility information more effectively both in Japan and the EU.
 
In addition, Ambassador Kazutoshi AIKAWA made his comments online from Brussels at the beginning of the senior official meeting of the policy dialogue.
