Recruitment: Research Assistant

The Mission of Japan to the EU is looking for a Research Assistant at the Political Section.
The starting date for the position is expected to be around February 2025.
1) Main Duties
- Research on issues related to the EU, including those of the European Parliament.
- Attend in person/virtual meetings and conferences – e.g. think tank events, conferences, press briefings etc- and write reports.
- Accompany diplomats in meetings, write reports, and if requested, provide interpretation.
- Monitor and report daily news updates on key policy issues in the EU relevant to the Mission.
- Draft speeches, letters, and correspondence in English for the Mission.
2) Other Tasks
- Assist the Political Section e.g. conducting general administrative tasks, answering phone calls, writing/sending letters and emails, drafting lists of participants with Excel etc.
- Assist with organisation of events within the Mission.
- Carry out other general administrative tasks as requested.
3) Requirements
- Work experience with a demonstrated ability in research, analysis, and documentation.
- Sound knowledge of the functioning of the EU institutions, the decision-making process at EU level, and legal issues would be an asset.
- Excellent drafting and editing skills with a strong attention to detail.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English (native level)
- Language skills in Japanese and French would be an asset.
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
- Work permit required for Non-EU citizens.
4) Working Conditions
- Salary will depend on experiences (possibility of an increase in the future)
- Overtime (in accordance with Belgian legislation)
- Year-end bonus (If registered in December)
- Assistance with transportation costs
5) Working hours
- Monday to Friday
- Full time (in accordance with Belgian legislation) 35h/week

7) Employment contract
At the end of the fixed-term employment period, a transition to a permanent contract will be discussed depending on the evaluation of the performance.
