The 40th Japan-EU Interparliamentary Conference

The 40th Japan-EU Interparliamentary Conference was held in Tokyo between 31 October and 1 November 2022. During the conference, the EU delegation led by MEP Christel Schaldemose exchanged views with members of the Japanese parliament on Ukraine, the Indo-Pacific, the climate crisis, the digital transformation and other regional issues. Following the discussions, they issued a joint statement.
During their stay in Japan, the EU delegation had a meeting with various Ministers including Mr. Nishimura, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry and Mr. Yamada, State Minister for Foreign Affairs. They discussed several topics including the remaining EU import measures on Japanese food products regarding radionuclides following the accident at TEPCO's Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station.
To explore Japan’s effort to achieve carbon neutral economy, they moved to Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture and visited Toyota to explore their green technologies including hydrogen fuel that enabled to manufacture “Mirai”.
