Foreign Minister Motegi Visits Africa (December 8-14, 2020)

1  Foreign Minister MOTEGI Toshimitsu visited Tunisia, Mozambique, South Africa, and Mauritius between December 8th and December 14th.
 
2  Throughout the visit, Minister MOTEGI and his African counterparts confirmed their cooperation on "Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP)". FOIP aims to maintain and strengthen the maritime order based on the rule of law, blue economy, and the pursuit of economic prosperity. Moreover, they reiterated their will to strengthen bilateral relations, including business relations, and to look ahead to the post-coronavirus era, and cooperation towards TICAD8, which Tunisia will host in 2022. Minister MOTEGI also asked for understanding and cooperation on the early resolution of the abductions issue by the North Korea and gained the support of each of his counterparts.
 
3  Japan will enhance connectivity between Asia and Africa through the Indo-Pacific in all areas including digital, transportation, energy, and human and cultural exchange networks, and contribute to the promotion of stability and prosperity throughout the region.
