On 29 November, Ambassador Kodama was invited to the opening ceremony of the RIKEN Europe Office in Brussels, where he gave an opening speech. The ceremony was attended by about 100 people including Mr. Hiroshi Matsumoto (President, RIKEN), Mr. Paul Rübig (Member of the European Parliament), Mr. Jean-Eric Paquet (Director-General for Research and Innovation, European Commission), Mr. Jean-Pierre Bourguignon (President, European Research Council), and Mr. Yoshio Yamawaki (Deputy Minister, MEXT). The new office has been established to expand and coordinate research collaboration with the EU and the relevant institutions in Europe.
