On October 7, the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) and the European Research Council (ERC) signed a new implementing arrrangement on research exchange. The signing ceremony was attended by Mr. Masahiko Shibayama, Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, and Ms. Patricia Flor, Ambassador-Designate of the European Union to Japan. The discussion on this new arrangement was initiated when Mr. Yoshimasa Hayashi, Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (at that time), met Mr. Carlos Moedas, European Commissioner for Research, Science and Innovation in Brussels this January.
