Garden Party at the Ambassador’s Residence
On 19 June, Ambassador Kodama hosted the Japanese Mission’s annual summer garden party at his residence. It was attended by high-level guests including Her Royal Highness Princess Claire of Belgium, Mr. Julian King, the European Commissioner for the Security Union, and Mr. Petr Ježek MEP, the chair of the Delegation for relations with Japan. Other guests included representatives from the EU institutions (the European Commission, the Council of European Union, the European Parliament, and the EEAS), the diplomatic corps in Brussels, think tanks, journalists and Japanese companies. The reception was very successful and a total of 600 guests participated in the event.
After an opening speech by Ambassador Kodama, Commissioner King, Mr. Ježek and Ambassador Marlene Bonnici, the Permanent Representative of Malta to the EU, joined Ambassador Kodama for “Kagami-wari” (The Japanese sake barrel-opening ceremony).
The garden party was a great opportunity for guests to discover the latest Japanese technological and artisanal innovations, which were presented by representatives from Toyota, Kaneka, All Nippon Airways (ANA) and RIO BREWING&CO (Uijin beer). In addition, a television screen broadcasting a Japanese TV programme was also on display thanks to the collaboration of NHK World Japan.
The garden party was a great occasion for Japanese and European counterparts to deepen their relationships in a relaxed atmosphere. Many guests remarked how much they enjoyed the Japanese food and sake and that the experience of the party had made them even fonder of Japanese culture.
