Garden Party at the Ambassador’s Residence

On 15 June, Ambassador Kodama hosted the Japanese Mission’s annual summer garden party at his residence, which was attended by 450 guests. Guests included H.E. Mr. Phil Hogan, the European Commissioner for Agriculture as well as officials from the EU institutions, the diplomatic corps in Brussels, and guests from various Japanese companies.

After an opening speech by Ambassador Kodama, Ambassador Odobescu, Permanent Representative of Romania to the EU, and Mr. Sogor, Member of the European Parliament delegation for relations with Japan, joined Ambassador Kodama for “Kagami-wari” (the Japanese sake barrel-opening ceremony).

It was a great opportunity for the guests to learn about the latest Japanese technology and culinary innovations, which were presented by representatives from JAXA, Toyota, Rio Brewing&Co, and ROYCE’.

The garden party was a great occasion for Japanese and European counterparts to deepen their relationships in a relaxed atmosphere. Many guests remarked on how much they enjoyed the Japanese food and sake and that the experience of the party had made them even fonder of Japanese culture.
