The Food Safety Commission of Japan (FSC) and the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) have signed a Memorandum of Cooperation in order to bring their cooperation into concrete actions and further expand their coordination.

The FSC has been making efforts to develop a close relationship with the EFSA. This has been done by building a network of connections among experts of both sides.

The signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation is based on the 17th Japan-EU Summit Joint Press Statement Annex; Japan-EU Cooperation on Consumer Safety and Protection which stated “Japan and the EU will explore possibilities for strengthening reciprocal exchange of information on food safety”.

The FSC will continue to enhance cooperation as a risk assessment organization with the EFSA by exchanging information and views on risk assessment measures and individual challenges at regular meetings based on the signed Memorandum of Cooperation.
