Speech by H.E. Ambassador Shiojiri

Ambassador Shiojiri

Haiku Post-Box Ceremony, April 20 2012.

It is my great honor and privilege to have the presence of President Van Rompuy. I thank you very much, your Excellency.

And I would like to extend my warm welcome to Mayor Noshi of Matsuyama City, the capital of Haiku.
And I thank you all who are present here.

I am very much delighted the haiku post is installed in Brussels, the capital of Europe. This is the first haiku post installed outside of Japan.

What is Haiku? There could be many answers. My answer is Haiku: the art of heart-to-heart dialogue.
I hope, through this haiku post, our heart-to-heart dialogue will be further enhanced.

I would like to read my own haiku, which is on asparagus. These days I eat asparagus almost every day. And I can sense spring has come.

Taste asparagus
Chorus of spring
Hope comes anew

Thank you.
