Opening remarks by Ambassador Shiojiri
Good evening,
Before I make my remarks,I would like to ask you to observe a moment of silence for the victims and bereaved families of the Great East Japan Earthquake and the tragic bus accident in Switzerland. The loss of so many young lives is especially heartbreaking and we wish that the injured have a full recovery.
Thank you very much for joining us for Fukko Concert Japan.
“Fukko” means “reconstruction” in Japanese. One year has passed since the disaster devastated the Tohoku area in Japan.
Now we are moving forward on the road to Fukko.
The road is uphill with many challenges ahead of us.But, I am sure with our never give up sprit and with your warm support we will reconstruct.
I would like to reiterate, “We will never forget your friendship. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts.”
Mrs. Yuzuko Horigome who is the first Japanese violinist to win the first prize at the Queen Elisabeth International Music Competition prepared and organized this concert with her friends.
And we have a special guest here tonight, Mr.Salvatore Adamo, a good friend of Japan.
I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all the performers and organizers of Fukko Concert Japan.Tonight, I wish that the beautiful sound of music and our prayers for Fukko reach Tohoku.
I thank you very much. Je vous remercie beaucoup. Dank u wel.
